“The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) never touched the hand of a woman who was not married to him.” [Bukhari]
The Messenger of Allah (Sall Allahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) Said: “I do not shake hands with women.” (An-Nasai # 4181; Ibn Maajah # 2874
لَّقَدۡ كَانَ لَكُمۡ فِى رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ أُسۡوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ۬ لِّمَن كَانَ يَرۡجُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلۡيَوۡمَ ٱلۡأَخِرَ وَذَكَرَ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرً۬ا
Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much. (21) [Surah Al-Ahzab (33) : 21]
The hadith in question is a narration of Ma'qil ibn Yasaar (Radhiallahu Anhu) who narrates that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi wasallam) said: "It is better for an iron rod (nail, needle etc) to be driven into the head of a man, than for him to touch a woman who is not permissible for him."
[The hadith is narrated by the great Hafiz of Hadith , at-Tabrani, in his al-Mu'jam al-Kabir (Vol.20 Pg.211) and by the Muhaddith al-Ruyaani, in his Musnad (Vol.2 Pg.323). —
The Prophet used to take Bay'ah with his right hand [Muslim: 1/76]
And in another hadeeth Bay'ah is referred to mean doing Musafhah (Shaking hands).
Sayyidah Umaymah (radiallah anha) narrates that several of us women came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace be upon him) to take Bay'ah on Islaam, so we requested to shake hands on the Bay'ah, so the Messenger of Allah said: "إِنِّي لاَ أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ" (I do not shake hands with women).
